Teri Lynne Underwood is a pastor’s wife, ministry speaker, and Bible teacher. As the mother of a teenage daughter and the founder of Prayers for Girls, a popular online community for mothers of daughters, Teri Lynne is a cheerleader for girl moms and the author of Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most. You can connect with Teri Lynne on her blog, Facebook, and Instagram.

In this episode, we discuss all things prayer!

  • Why does prayer matter for our girls?
  • How can we pray specifically for our girls?
  • How do we handle unanswered prayers and difficult seasons?

We also discuss a very important, unknown piece of Teri’s story – her debate team history. What! I had no idea. This all makes sense to me now. If you have heard her speak – it’s another level. She’s far left – rocking the royal blue number and I’m not sure why she got the flowers but I bet she brought home the winning debate that day.

Have I told you lately how much I LOVE this girl?

Go follow her and enjoy her FREE prayer resources! Gold!

Also… if you heard in the intro about our car ride … these were the photos. I have no idea why I was laying on her shoulder but we thought we were hilarious. I know that was a fact.

Allie Stanley is originally from Milton, GA and graduated from Auburn University this past May. She has a passion for serving students and was a middle school small group leader, a Young Life leader, a camp counselor and the Student Coordinator at Auburn Community Church.  Allie now works with college students at a church in Woodstock, Ga while she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Christian Leadership from DTS. She has a heart for pouring into younger generations and her prayer is that the Lord uses her to inspire and equip students to be godly young men and women who are passionately pursing the Lord while loving the people around them.

In this episode, we cover so many topics! Please invite your daughter (from tweens to college age and beyond) to listen in to her wisdom and practical advice.

  • What was it like growing up as the daughter of Andy and Sandra Stanley?
  • How can our daughters follow Christ while they are in college?
  • What did your mom do really well?
  • What advice do you have for us raising girls in today’s world?

Allie brings something to light in this episode which is so needed in our culture right now. How can we be present with our girls but not make them our entire identity? We talk through this a bit (in the middle and at the end) and I was seriously challenged.

Thank you, Allie, for the way you follow Jesus with your entire heart. And how you let others see and hear it. He IS BETTER! I pray God blesses your journey at DTS and know so many girls continue to be blessed through your work. – Courtney

Psalm 139

1 You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand—
    when I awake, I am still with you.

19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
    Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
    your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
    and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
    I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.

FELECEIA B. BENTON, affectionately known as Zoe’s Mom, is a passionate lover of God, His people and His purpose in her life and the lives of others.

Her knack for creativity and business inspired her to start her own company. Now in its seventh year, the Zoe Communications Agency is a creative content and brand management company that builds strategic marketing solutions for cities, communities and businesses like the City of DeSoto, the City of Hutchins, RISE Clothing, and the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce. She is driven by her desire to find really big solutions to really big problems, especially for organizations and communities.

Her love for writing inspired her to not only author her first book, Lessons from Five Fingers: 21 Life Lessons from the Book of Zoe, but also led her to found Elisia Magazine, a quarterly digital lifestyle magazine that celebrates the diverse voice of the American woman.

An accomplished award-winning singer and performer, Feleceia has performed on almost every professional theater stage in Dallas/Ft. Worth and has been featured in publications like the Dallas Morning News, Culture Map Dallas, and most recently on the cover of Thrive Magazine with her little girl, Zoe.

As a single mother of an amputee born with Down Syndrome, Feleceia still finds the time to record a weekly podcast, LifeChat Radio, where she and her co-host talk music, business, spirituality and all things life.

Ms. Benton holds two degrees from Texas Christian University, a graduate of the Leadership Southwest program, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Public Leadership at UNT-Dallas. She also sits on a number of non-profit boards in Southern Dallas County.

Feleceia is ultimately passionate about spreading her inspirational message of creativity, spirituality and empowerment through faith, hope and action.

In this episode, we talk about two key areas:

  • First, Felecia does a POWERFUL job of encouraging those moms of girls with special needs. Whether it’s like her daughter with Down Syndrome or a learning challenge or anything! She has such wisdom and practical advice. She is REAL and honest and hopeful.
  • Secondly, Felecia talks to moms of ALL girls. I ask her how our girls can love on children like Zoe. How can all of our kids treat children with special needs with love and acceptance? I learned so much from her! And I hope my girls get the chance to find a new fabulous friend in Zoe. I pray my kids see they are so much more alike then they are different.

Thank you Feleceia for your being an amazing mom and role model!
